LYNDA SPRECHER |
IN THE ARTIST'S WORDS
Art has been an emotional and spiritual release for me. It has been a way for me to go beyond the limits people have tried to place on me and find the joy in creative expression.
Fusing glass is about constant negotiation and allows me a unique relationship of give and take with my art. The final piece is the result of harmony between the glass and the artist. This medium can be unpredictable; glass is fragile yet there is strength and flexibility. As both artist and technician, I find this exciting, sometimes frustrating, but always a delightful challenge.
I think Art is a journey in imagination. I like to work in different styles and subject matter inspired by nature, music, and whimsy. The elements of glass suggest a close relationship to nature. The dynamic flow of life is a fitting subject for fused glass work and I enjoy bringing that into my creations.
When some of my other work gets too intense, I pause to create a new whimsical penguin piece. To me, penguins embody a beautifully joyful presence of life and these are my humorous escape valves!
Doing artwork in any medium is my way to relax with just myself to think and create. Sometimes the complete idea never gets finished or changes many times but it is my time and moments to relax, especially now. I particularly enjoy to work with soft music in the background (French cooking music on Pandora is my favorite).
