IN THE ARTIST'S WORDS
For me, painting is a way of experiencing the connection of life, movement and beauty. My process starts with a structural foundation followed by an exploration of the connections and movement I perceive in the natural word. I hope that my viewers feel my work beyond a visual sensation and can have a shared experience with me.
My teen years became difficult as my parents fell into alcoholism. Art became an outlet to maintain the freedom and richness of my youth. Throughout hardship, I immersed myself in the crashing waves along the Northern California coast, the movement of the steelhead in the river, and the reeds blustering in the coastal winds. The wildness and beauty I found in nature helped center me on presence and perseverance.
As I’ve struggled through the emotional roller coaster of loss, tough relationships and personal hardships, I’ve found that strength is found in this shared experience. I am driven by the hope and faith that I’ll share beauty and wildness, color and light, awe and peace, with those around me. I have found my own mental and spiritual strength in this experience and I wish to bring other’s along.
ABOUT MARY
